30 Years on the charts for Garth.

30 years ago this week, a new artist from Oklahoma hit the US Country music charts for the first time, and many would argue, changed Country music forever.
GARTH BROOKS went on to be, not only Country music's biggest star, but the only musical act in American music history to have 7 Diamond status albums.
He has released 22 albums in total, and has recently undertaken his 2019 Stadium tour across the US.
And Celtic Music Radio's Stewart Fenwick was there in Garth's early career. Garth hosted an English style Tea Party during CMA Awards week in Nashville for overseas media back in 1989, and Stewart was there.
To mark Garth's 30th Aniversary of hitting the charts for the first time, Celtic Music Radio listeners will get a chance to hear Stewart's 1989 interview with Garth Brooks on this Sunday's Celtic Country, together with some of the songs from his first album.
Tune in on 95FM & DAB in Glasgow, 97.4FM Dunoon Community Radio, on DAB in Portsmouth and online @ www.celticmusicradio.net, this Sunday , March 24th 12 Noon-2pm, repeated Midnight. or later via the Listen anytime link on the left hand bar of this page.

Southern Fried break in 2019.

Perth’s Southern Fried Festival will take a break for 2019 and return in the summer of 2020.
Andy Shearer, director of the annual celebration of American Roots music, which has taken place in Perth Concert Hall, Perth Theatre and other city centre venues for eleven years, said:
“In its eleven years, we have welcomed a veritable who’s who from the Americana world to Perth for the Southern Fried Festival and created a genuinely world-class event that Horsecross Arts and the city is justifiably proud of. The festival has attracted a loyal fanbase from all over Scotland and beyond, many of whom return year after year. Our aim is always to make each festival better than the one before and I believe that we have achieved this in the great spread of artists and events we have attracted to Perth over the years.
After much discussion, we have decided to take a break for 2019 and return refreshed and raring to go in 2020.
Our decision is based on a number of factors including availability of headline artists and budget pressures. Creating the best possible festival is a very expensive process and we think it is fair to Southern Fried fans to present them with a festival that meets their and our high expectations of the event.
Building the festival from the ground up over the past few years has been a real labour of love for me and while this has been a hugely difficult call to make on a personal level, I know it’s the right and responsible professional decision under the unique circumstances we find ourselves in this year. We look forward to coming back in 2020 with another great Southern Fried line-up and meeting up with all our festival family and friends again".

Strait record breaker

George Strait continues to prove why he’s the undisputed King of Country, breaking his own attendance record. He recently played to a record crowd of 80,108 in Houston’s NRG Stadium, besting his previous attendance record set there in 2013 of 80,020. The show was Strait’s 30th performance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Ameripolitan Awards honour real roots music

Memphis, Tennessee was overrun last weekend with throwback hillbillies, Outlaw roughnecks, and Rockabilly Daddy-O’s/Susie Q’s as part of Dale Watson’s 6th Annual Ameripolitan shindig and awards show. With showcases transpiring starting Friday in various Memphis venues, the event culminated in the 6th Annual Ameripolitan Awards at the Guesthouse at Graceland in Memphis within walking distance of the Elvis mansion on Monday night, 2-25.
