CMA Awards on the BBC

This year's CMA Awards, which are back in Nashville after their excursion to New York last year is getting it's usual coverage on the BBC.
BBC Radio 2 will broadcast the event live from backstage at the Gaylord Entertainment Center with veteran presenter Bob Harris and guest presenter Beth Nielsen Chapman on 7 November from 1am-4am. BBC 2 Television will broadcast an edited version of the show on 11 November.

Northern Nashville additions

Nashville duo, The Woodys , and Ireland's Logue & McCool have been added to the line up for Easter 2007's Northern Nashville Festival in Caithness. They join Jett Williams, The Jacks, and The Diesel Cowboys on stage in Halkirk. Full details on the NNCMC link on the left.

 

Sonny & George to Hall of Fame

Sonny James & George Strait are this years inductees into The Country Music Hall Of Fame. The official induction will take place during the CMA Awards Show on November 6th.
Sonny's career goes back to 1953 when "That's Me Without You" made the Top 10. 72 Country hits, including 23 No'1's followed, including "Young Love", "You're The Only World I Know" and "Empty Arms".
George Strait launched his career 25 years ago, and has consistantly hit the No.1 sopt with songs like "Fool Hearted Memory", "Ocean Front Property" and "Blue Clear Sky". His latest album, "It Just Comes Natural" is released in the UK on October 30th. Having heard it, it's simply the strongest Country album released for many a year!

 

Livingston Flag & Saddle reunion

West Lothian's long serving C&W Club is having a reunion. The Flag & Saddle reunion will take place on Tuesday, November 14th in THe Masonic Hall, Nellburn Road, Deans, Livingston. Jolene & Barry will entertain the troops.By the beginning of the month, all tickets had been sold, ensuring the event is a total sellout.

Maddison's San Quentin C&W Club (near Falkirk) have Rambling FEver as guests on Friday November 3rd. On November 10th, The Bootleggers welcome Brushwood to Bannockburn, and the following night, Lemon Grass are guests of The Prairie Star in Alloa.

Freddie Fender dies

After a long illness, Tex-mex favourite Freddy Fender died Saturday of lung cancer, at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born 69 years ago as Baldemar G. Huerta in San Benito, Texas.
He began his music career in the 1950s, while still in his teens, and hit his peak in the mid seventies. He was named 'Most Promising Male Vocalist' by the Academy of Country Music in 1975. The Country Music Association named "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" as 'Single of the Year' that same year.

Country Girls in print

A new book about Dolly Parton, titled "Smart Blonde: The Life of Dolly Parton," by Stephen Miller, is published next month. Around the same time, The Gretchen Wilson book, "Redneck Woman: Stories From My Life," will also appear.
