Freddie Fender dies
After a long illness, Tex-mex favourite Freddy Fender died Saturday of lung cancer, at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born 69 years ago as Baldemar G. Huerta in San Benito, Texas.
He began his music career in the 1950s, while still in his teens, and hit his peak in the mid seventies. He was named 'Most Promising Male Vocalist' by the Academy of Country Music in 1975. The Country Music Association named "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" as 'Single of the Year' that same year.
