Raintown returns

Glasgow based duo Raintown have a few tour dates lined up this spring, with tickets on sale for this week. They play Thurso on April 19th, and Inverness Ironworks the following night, with a Glasgow date at Oran Mor on April 28th.
Before then,  Paul & Claire will play a session for Celtic Music Radio on Sunday, February 4th at 12 Noon.

 

Stetsons & Heels for Opry

Liz Clarke is bringing her Stetsons n Heels show to Glasgows Grand Ole Opry on April 8th , with special guests Geri Kane & Francis Connelly.

 

Spring Into Country

The annual May weekend all day event returns to The David Lloyd Centre in Renfrew on Sunday, May 6th for the 10th Anniversary event. This year's acts include Jolene & Barry, Carson City, Sierra Moon and Kickin' Country.

Nashville rallies round for Anita Cochran

Following on from the dreadful news from Lari White, another 90's Country singer has disclosed that she's been diagnosed with triple positive, invasive carcinoma breast cancer.
Anita Cochran released her first project Back To You in 1998, which produced the No. 1  song, “What If I Said,” which featured Steve Wariner. She gained the respect of her peers for her work in producing, singing, writing, and playing multiple instruments including lead guitar on her debut album. on March 13th
Many of her friends are rallying around to stage a benefit concert at Nashville venue 3rd & Lindsley on March 13th : “A 90’s Country Night: Unplugged” will include performances by Clay Walker, Steve Wariner, Terri Clark, Suzy Bogguss, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Ty Herndon, Wade Hayes, The Lynns, Bryan White, Mandy Barnett, and a special guest who is one of Anita’s biggest influences, Crystal Gayle.


 

Urban Cowboys ride again

Johnny Lee and Mickey Gilley are reuniting for a series of dates on the Urban Cowboy Reunion Tour. The two friends will co-headline the tour, which kicks off Jan. 26 in Stafford, Texas and will visit cities across the country including Nevada, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Louisiana and Pennsylvania.
Johnny's biggest hit, "Looking For Love" came from the John Travolta movie back in 1981, which was based around Gilley's club in Pasadena.
The duo can also be seen throughout the year in their hometown of Branson, Missouri, at Mickey Gilley’s Shanghai Theater.

 

90's Country star Lari White dead at 52.

Multi-faceted Nashville entertainer Lari White has died at age 52.
She is best known for her string of RCA hits of the 1990s, including “That’s My Baby” (1994), “Now I Know” (1994), “That’s How You Know (When You’re In Love)” (1995) and “Ready, Willing and Able” (1996). White was also a stage and screen actor, a songwriter, a record producer and a label owner.
In addition to co-writing most of her hits, she also had her songs recorded by Tammy Wynette, Rebecca Holden, Patti Page, Danny Gokey, Sarah Buxton and Pat Green, among others.
White was born in Dunedin, FL and was a performer from childhood on. She began singing and playing piano in her family’s band at age 4, wrote her first song when she was 8 and had toured performing pop, gospel, rock and soul by the time she reached her teens.
She majored in audio engineering in college and launched her solo career singing ad jingles and studio backup vocals. Lari White came to Nashville in 1988 to compete, and win, on the TNN TV talent contest You Can Be a Star.
In 1990, she unsuccessfully auditioned to become the lead singer of Highway 101. She then became Rodney Crowell’s backup vocalist on a 1991 tour. The star produced her 1993 RCA debut LP Lead Me Not, which led to her nomination as the ACM’s Top New Female Vocalist of the year. The album’s song “What a Woman Wants” became the first country video to be filmed in Rome, Italy.
In 2006, she starred on Broadway in the Johnny Cash-themed musical Ring of Fire.
Her last recording, a 2016 double album Old Friends New Loves,  contained re-recordings of her hits and some new songs.
She passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 after a short battle with peritoneal cancer.



 

Double Emmy awards for Dolly

Dolly Parton received her first two Emmy awards Saturday night (Jan. 20) at the Midsouth Regional Emmy ceremony at the Music City Center in Nashville, both focused on her work giving back to those in need. Parton, who was first nominated for an Emmy in 1978, is the only country artist to have received nods from the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Golden Globes and Grammys.
Parton was awarded the Best Community Service program trophy for her Smoky Mountains Rise telethon, which raised more than $13 million dollars for her My People Fund, to help those affected by the horrific mountain wildfires across East Tennessee last year.
The National Association of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Midsouth also recognized the legend’s lifetime of giving back with the Governor’s Award. In her acceptance, Parton noted that she is most proud of her efforts on behalf of Dollywood, the Dollywood Foundation, including the Imagination Library, the My People Fund and Mountain Tough.

 

Brandon for Alloa

Caithness based Country & Scottish entertainer, Brandon McPhee, is bringing his concert show to Alloa Town Hall on Saturday April 21st. Brandon, who is a Mod winning accordion player, is also a mean Country singer. His band includes Ireland's Crawford Bell, steelie Davie Holland, and Manson, Robert & Keith from The Dynamos.
Meanwhile. Brandon has returned to Keep It Country TV with the Caithness Music TV show, Saturdays 5pm.

 

Prairie Star's Border Radio

Dundee based Border Radio will be the guests at the February meeting of Alloa based Prairie Star C&W Club on Saturday February 3rd. The event is held, as usual, in Weirs Social Club.
The club will also remember long time member Ada Wilcox, who passed away last week. Ada was secretary of the previous C&W Club in the area, The Treble C.
