September club dates

The Forth Valley's Country music clubs have a variety of events during September.
The San Quentin CWC at Polmont Golf Club in Maddison, nr Falkirk, have Steve James visiting the club on Friday 7th. The following night, the Prairie Star at Alloa's Weirs Club have a visit from Reunion.
On the 14th, The No Angels in Bo'ness Town Hall will be entertained by Brushwood. The following day, Bannockburn's Bootleggers have a minifestival, which sold out months ago.
Finally the Polmont Linedancers will be out in force at Polmont Golf Club in Maddison for a visit from local favourites Jolene & Barry.

Northern Nashville 2008

The Northern Nashville CMC have announced their provisional line up for next years festival in Halkirk, Caithness to be held over Easter weekend 21st-23rd March.
Ronnie McDowell headlines from the USA, Cash on Delivery will be coming over from Holland and The Indians and Joe Moore will represent Ireland.
The touring Country Legends Show will provide all your favourites, plus there is all the local bands,Texas Gun,May & Mackie,The Jacks,Manson Grant & The Dynamos, Nickels & Dimes,Radio Active and Kate Bain. Gerry Ford will once again compere the event.
Tickets will be on sale shortly, and local hotels are already taking bookings.

Jackson on top

Following a wave of national publicity, Denise Jackson's book, It's All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life has debuted at No. 1 on the nonfiction New York Times Bestseller list. The story details her marriage to Alan Jackson. "This is a perfect example of God's extravagant grace and how He longs to draw others to Himself through my story," she said. He noted, "I'm obviously very proud of Denise and so happy that she finally gets a chance to step from the side of the stage to the center and enjoy her own feeling of accomplishment and success."

 

Garth back

Garth Brooks new CD/DVD boxed set will be released in November "The Ultimate Garth Brooks" will feature 34 tracks, including four new ones, on two CDs along with a DVD of music videos. Brooks has concluded his exclusive distribution deal with Wal-Mart, so the new release will beavailable to all retailers. In addition to the boxed set, Brooks plans to reissue individual CDs that were originally released by Capitol Records. Brooks, who owns and controls his recordings, exited Capitol in 2005. Country radio programmers from throughout the nation will converge in Nashville on Aug. 17-18 to preview Brooks' new music. He will hold a press conference on Aug. 18.

 

Kate Campbell returns

Some advance notice so you can clear some space in your diaries from Little Roots.Superb US singer songwriter Kate Campbell is set to appear in the intimate downstairs venue of Glasgow's State Bar this November 28th.

 

3 to the Hall Of Fame

The Country Music Association have announced that influential radio and television personality Ralph Emery, multi-award-winning entertainer Vince Gill and legendary singer/songwriter Mel Tillis will become the newest members of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame.
Emery will be inducted in the "Non-Performer" category, Gill will be the third artist inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between 1975 and the Present" category, which was created in 2005 and Tillis will be inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between World War II and 1975" category.
Emery, Gill and Tillis will be officially inducted in October during the traditional, invitation-only Medallion Ceremony at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

New radio show for Ayrshire

Bill McBlane now presents a new UCA Country radio show featuring the best of today’s hot country, classic favourites, country music news from the USA and what’s on in Ayrshire and Arran.
UCA Radio broadcasts live from University Campus Ayr in the beautiful Craigie estate on the banks of the River Ayr. Part of the University of Paisley’s large Department of Media, Language and Music the station is primarily aimed at students who can tune in within the campus on 87.7 FM. Mondays @ 2-5pm
However, it also has a strand of community programmes and so can be heard across Ayrshire and Arran on DAB digital radio.

 

Red Stegall honoured

Red Steagall will be inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in Carthage, TX on August 18. In a celebration at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Theater, host Ralph Emery will welcome Red and fellow inductees Johnny Rodriguez and Bob Luman.
On September 15th, Red Steagall's newest album Here We Go Again will hit stores. On the album, Red is joined by some of Country music's hottest stars on newly recorded duet versions of his classic hits. Guest stars include: Toby Keith ("Lone Star Beer and Bob Wills Music"); Reba McEntire ("Here We Go Again"); Charley Pride ("Party Dolls and Wine"); Ray Benson ("Bob's Got a Swing Band in Heaven"); Neal McCoy ("Early Mornin' Kind of Love"); Larry Gatlin ("No Way, No How"); and Charlie Daniels ("Truck Drivin' Man"). The album also includes Steagall standards like "Freckles Brown" and "Somewhere My Love."
Red will perform one of his classic hits during the Country Music Hall of Fame Awards event.

 

Canadian award nominees announced

The Canadian Country Music Association today announced the nominees for the 2007 CCMA Awards, which will take place Monday, September 10 at Brandt Centre, in Regina.
Well-known country performer George Canyon, originally from Nova Scotia, and first-time nominee Shane Yellowbird led the ballot with their multiple nominations. Canyon garnered five nominations in major categories, including Single and Album of the Year, and the coveted Fans’ Choice Award. Yellowbird, from Hobbema, Alberta, received five major nominations including Chevy Rising Star and Independent Male Artist.
It was also a multi-nomination celebration for Paul Brandt, Doc Walker, Emerson Drive, Brad Johner, and Carolyn Dawn Johnson, all making an impact as nominees in major categories with a total of four nominations each.
The CCMA have also announced the nominees for the Kraft Cheez Whiz Fans’ Choice Award and the opening of online voting for fans, at http://www.cmt.ca. The 2007 nominees are: Paul Brandt, George Canyon, Terri Clark, Doc Walker and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.

Jace Everett returns

Singer/Songwriter Jace Everett is set to embark on a three week tour of the United Kingdom, including a few dates opening for the legendary Guy Clark.
Jace has appeared twice with the Country Music Association's (CMA) New From Nashville initiative. Jace just released a new album "Old New Borrowed Blues." It is a set of live acoustic recordings and is available to purchase at www.jaceeverett.com.
