New Hall of Famers announced

The Country Music Association announced today that Jimmy Dean, Ferlin Husky, Billy Sherrill, and Don Williams will become the newest members of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame.
Due to a tie in the voting, both Dean and Husky will be inducted in the "Veterans Era Artist" category. Williams will be inducted in the "Modern Era Artist" category. Sherrill will be inducted in the "Non-Performer" category, which is awarded every third year in a rotation with the "Recording and/or Touring Musician" and "Songwriter" categories. Dean, Husky, Sherrill, and Williams will increase membership in the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame from 108 to 112 inductees.

Musicians hounded out of Music City development

A Nashville judge on Friday (Feb. 12) ordered the founder of the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum to move the operation from its current location in downtown Nashville to make way for a $585 million convention center. In ruling in favor of the Metro Development and Housing Authority, Judge Barbara Haynes is requiring Musicians Hall of Fame founder Joe Chambers to move everything out of the building he owns on Sixth Avenue South within seven days. Developers have reportedly offered $4.8 million for Chambers' property, but he says it would cost almost $9 million to relocate the museum. The museum, which opened in 2006, is located near the Sommet Center and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Taylor dominates the Grammy's

Taylor Swift and the Zac Brown Band won their first Grammy Awards on Sunday (Jan. 31) in Los Angeles, recognized in two of the night's highest-profile categories. Swift's Fearless claimed the evening's final honor -- album of the year. She also collected three country trophies -- best female country vocal performance and best country song for "White Horse," as well as best country album for Fearless. Meanwhile, the Zac Brown band won best new artist among all genres.
Keith Urban won the third Grammy of his career for best male vocal performance, whilst Lady Antebellum claimed their first for best country performance by a duo or group with vocals for "I Run to You."
Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood won for "I Told You So" as best country collaboration with vocals. Other winners include Levon Helm for Americana album for Electric Dirt ; Steve Earle's latest album, Townes, earned him his third Grammy for contemporary folk album, and Loudon Wainwright III won his first Grammy in a long career in the traditional folk album category with High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project.
Steve Wariner earned his fourth Grammy for best country instrumental performance, for his instrumental renditions of famous country songs produced by Chet Atkins Actor Steve Martin collected his fourth Grammy when The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo won for best bluegrass albums.
