Billy Joe Shaver was found not guilty Friday (April 9) following a trial on an aggravated assault charge for shooting a man outside a bar near Waco, Texas. A jury in Waco deliberated for less than two hours before acquitting the 70-year-old singer-songwriter of shooting Billy Bryant Coker in the face on March 31, 2007. For a second consecutive day, longtime friend Willie Nelson showed up Friday at the McLennan County Courthouse to show his support for Shaver. Academy Award-winning actor Robert Duvall was also there Thursday. Shaver had an acting role in Duvall's 1997 film, The Apostle. Appearing on the witness stand Friday, Shaver said the shooting stemmed from an argument he had with Coker in the bar. Shaver says he felt intimidated when Coker began stirring everyone's drinks at the bar with a pocketknife.

Shania Twain will star in her own television series on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, starting in January 2011.
Titled Why Not? With Shania Twain, the series is described as a personal journey filled with risk, revelations and unexpected adventures." A spokesperson at Twain's record label described the series as a "docu-series" rather than a reality show. Twain divorced Robert "Mutt" Lange in 2008 after his affair with friend and employee Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Twain has reportedly been dating Frédéric Thiébaud, who is Marie-Anne's former husband.

Singer-songwriters Allison Moorer and Steve Earle's first child, John Henry Earle, was born Monday (April 5). He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. Moorer and Earle, who married in 2005, live in New York's Greenwich Village. 55 year old Earle is also the father of singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle.

Despite being advertised on the bill for this years CountryFest in Donegal,we have it on good authority that Vince Gill will NOT be appearing at the event. Vince's management are taking steps to get the promoter to "cease and desist" from falsely advertising his visit.
The same promoter has also been advertising a tour featuring Stella Parton, which she hasn't committed to.
The homepage from JW Promotions, which advertised the events has now been blocked.
