Shania's the Fan favourite at Canadian Country Music Awards
Booked to host the glittering TV show, which was broadcast across Canada, and streamed across the world online for the first time, Shania was surprised during the pre-show red carpet coverage, by being presented by the awards for Top Selling Country Album, and Top Selling Canadian Country Album for “Now”. She was also presented with The Generation Award, and the evening’s top accolade, The Fans Choice Award. Shania had previously won this award three times, the most recent being in Ottawa back in 1999, when she was notable by her absence, being a 4 time award winner that year too.
As if Shania’s triumphant return wasn’t enough, the evening began with a Twain tribute, by three of today’s Country girls, Kira Isabella, Jess Moskaluke and Madeline Merlo.
Women were certainly shining bright on the night. Terri Clark was elected to the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame. Saskatchewan’s Jess Moskaluke collected the award for Album of the Year, the first time a female had won that award since Carolyn Dawn Johnson in 2004. And Meghan Patrick repeated her success by winning Female Vocalist for the second year.
BC’s Dallas Smith was the awarded Male vocalist for the first time, and The Reklaws were named Rising Stars. The James Barker Band were awarded Single of the Year for “Chills”, whilst The Washboard Union, based out on the west coast, were named Top Group, as well as collecting their third Roots Artist of the year accolade.
