Sweet Home Alabama co-writer passes
Longtime Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King, who helped pen one of Southern rock's quintessential anthems, died Wednesday at his Nashville home.
Ed King played guitar for Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1972 to 1975 and 1987 to 1996. He co-wrote the band's 1974 classic "Sweet Home Alabama," and it's his voice counting off the "One, two, three" before going into the instantly recognizable guitar riff that starts the song.
"Ronnie (Van Zant) wrote the lyrics, whilst Gary Rossington and Ed wrote the music.
