Ameripolitan Awards

Ameripolitan music is a term coined and championed by Dale Watson that describes music that “honours tradition while demonstrating exceptional originality, creativity and musicianship.”  In practice, it supports artists who are too Country for the CMA Awards, and don’t fit into other genres like Americana, bluegrass or folk music.
For the third year, the Ameripolitan Music Awards honoured the best in Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly and Outlaw music, in a lavish ceremony in Austin, Texas.
Ray Benson hosted the awards show, which took place at the city’s Paramount Theatre, where Wanda Jackson and the late Red Simpson earned Founder of the Sound awards, while Charley Pride received the Master Award.
In previous years, Caithness Festival visitors like Amber Digby, Bobby Flores and Justin Trevino have been award winners. This year, Jeff Woolsey and The Dancehall Kings were named Honky Tonk Group of the year. Jeff, of course, appeared at last year’s festival in Halkirk.
