Scots born Johnny Reid still Canada's Country King

Lanarkshire born Johnny Reid once again claimed the fans' choice award at this year’s Canadian Country Music Awards, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  It’s the sixth time in the past seven years that Johnny has won the honour.
"The bigger thing for me is to stand up there and say thanks to them," said Reid, standing out against his cowboy hat-clad colleagues in a black suit and tie. "It was a very humbling experience for me, yet again."
Johnny emigrated as a 14 year old child from Scotland to Canada, after the Lanarkshire steel mills closed in the late 80’s. He did a homecoming tour two years ago, playing Glasgow, Edinburgh & Aberdeen.
Johnny has been quite busy lately, working on a new album. The first single from it, “A Picture Of You”, is currently one of the hottest plays on Canadian radio.
Ironically, the biggest winner at the CCMA’s was another “immigrant”.
Gord Bamford, who was born in Australia, also moved to Canada as a child. He  has been part of the Country scene for the past 20 years, after entering a “Search For A Star” contest back in 1995, and recording his debut single “Forever Starts Today”.   He was the night's big winner, taking home three awards including Male Artist of the Year and Songwriter and Single of the Year for his song “Where a Farm Used To Be”.
In contrast to John Reid, Bamford wore an oversized black cowboy hat, debuting his new single “Don't Let Her Be Gone” on the nationally televised show.
For his first CCMA ever, Dallas Smith took home the coveted Album of the Year award for “Lifted”, whilst 25 year old Jess Moskaluke, from Saskatchewan won Female Artist of the Year for the second year in a row. The pop-country singer is gearing up for the release of her new EP Kiss Me Quiet later this month.
A popular home state winner was Dean Brody, who won Video of the Year for “Upside Down”.The 40-year-old B.C.-born singer, who moved to Nova Scotia six years ago after a stint in Nashville, said it felt great winning the award in his new home. High Valley's Brad and Curtis Rempel, were winners of the duo of the year award.
The Canadian Country Music Association Awards returned to Halifax for the first time in 33 years. Back in 1982, the big winners were Family Brown who won no less than 5 awards that year.
