Rita to rest in Hall of Fame
The Canadian Country Music Association® (CCMA®) have announced that Rita MacNeil , who sadly passed away in April, has been selected as the 2013 Artist inductee into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame®.
Rita MacNeil, was lovingly beholden to Canadians as Cape Breton’s first lady of song. She inspired and entertained audiences worldwide for over three decades, with hits like “Working Man”, “I’ll Accept The Rose” and “Home I’ll Be” Her recognition grew when she hosted the Award-winning CBC Television variety series Rita and Friends from 1994 to 1997.
A Member of the Order of Canada, she released an astonishing 24 albums throughout her career, eight of which were certified platinum in Canada. MacNeil amassed three JUNO Awards (13 nominations) and four CCMA Awards (19 nominations) including being a two-time CCMA Fan’s Choice Award winner.
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at a private industry event held during Country Music Week, which takes place September 5-8 in Edmonton, Alberta.
